Frequently Asked Questions

STARTUPS

WHAT STARTUPS ARE ELIGIBLE TO JOIN?

We welcome startups of all stages. You could be at idea stage or already active in your market segment. In a regional competition your HQ should operate not further than about 150km from the BoX event city you're applying for and should have not been active in your segment for more than 5 years.

WHAT ARE SUCCESS CRITERIA?

The jury will provide different views on your idea. Veteran entrepreneurs tend to look more for the team and your passion, whereas VCs will look for scalability of your business model. It should be visible why you’re growing to be an outstanding startup.

HOW DOES THE VOTING PROCESS WORK?

Nominating partners submit startups per competition. Of those submitted, the ambassadors will nominate eight finalists to move onto the final pitching competition. Then the public voting commences where two wildcard tickets will be awarded by public vote. On the day of the event we look forward to 10 outstanding founders.

DO YOU REQUIRE A BUSINESS PLAN?

No – we don’t require a sophisticated business plan from you. We will send you a guideline to submit relevant information, which is very similar to a pitch deck for investors focusing on key information. We also expect your business to have a presence on the internet.

AMBASSADORS

HOW CAN I GET A TICKET FOR AN EVENT?

All of our events are “invite-only” due to the events aiming at building a strong sounding-board and high value network to the participating startups. Tickets are primarily given to partners and ambassadors. A limited amount of tickets will be available to the public and communicated via our newsletter shortly before the event. If you’d like to receive an invitation please contact us via email.

WHAT'S A TYPICAL AGENDA FOR THE EVENT?

We want to focus on the startups pitches and provide ample time for further networking and exchange of ideas. We’ll also invite people we believe have to share significant insights or great entrepreneurial stories that will enrich the events. You can expect 10 pitches and 3-4 presentations at a regional event. An industry event is different as its goal is to foster business engagement. A typical industry event covers an entire day. Partner companies send employees to not only listen to pitches, but to work intensively with the attending founders to uncover business synergy and leave the event with a clear vision of how to work together on an upcoming project.

PARTNERS

WHO CAN BECOME A NOMINATING PARTNER?

Nominating partners are gatekeepers within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. They work with multiple entrepreneurs and separate quality from good intentions. This can be an incubator or accelerator as well as an established meetup group or any entity that defines its core purpose in working with aspiring founders.

WHAT DOES THE PARTNER HAVE TO DO?

Each partner nominates up startups to our events. The partner thereby makes an introduction to the startup they’d like nominate and we’ll take care of briefing the founders to participate in the chosen event. Every partner will be featured on our websites and social media channels.

CAN A PARTNER NOMINATE FOR MORE THAN ONE LOCATION?

Absolutely, we rely on our partners to jointly promote the best startups to each competition. The startup ecosystem should not operate in a constrained geographical region, neither do our partners or we.
