What are three words to describe yourself?

Entrepreneur and Investor

What was your very first business or creative idea? Did that make any money?

A self-build wooden car (“Seifenkiste”) at a local event – I’m from a village nearby Freiburg - when I was 12 years old… and yes, other kids pad very well to ride in there ;-)

What was your biggest challenge when you started your first business?

Getting the right people on board.

What was the best advice in life or business you've ever received?

What comes around goes around.

Which three people, famous or not famous, dead or alive, would you most like to invite to a dinner party? Why?

I prefer one-to-one meetings.

How do you define success?

Building something many people like.

What makes a founder successful?

Building something many people like.

What do you do in order to keep on learning and developing?

Read a lot. Meet interesting people.

Which resources are you recommending to first time entrepreneurs?

The Internet.

What's the biggest risk you've ever taken?

I’m actually in the middle of it. In five years I am curious to see how it panned out.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Be bolder.

What do you know to be true that no one else does?

Online advertising (mostly) sucks.

What's something you don't want to regret when you're older?

Not have been bold enough.

What's your favourite book?

“Brave New World” (Aldous Huxley)

What character traits of other entrepreneurs have impressed you?

Thinking big.

Do you believe successful ventures require something meaningful?

Totally. My best ventures are the ones with purpose, like AdblockPlus.org (“Getting rid of bad ads”) and Ecosia.org (“Plant trees by searching the web”)

What's something that first time founders should avoid at all costs?

Bad advisors.

Why are you getting involved with Best of X?

Because I like to support the Cologne start up ecosystem.

Final question - where can people find you online and why would you like to be contacted?
