What are three words to describe yourself?
Seasoned but young at heart.
What was your very first business or creative idea? Did that make any money?
In 1994 I wanted to build an interaction forum for young business people (as I was then) to help them find other like-minded individuals to discuss their current challenges and exchange papers / approaches / ideas … I never got to implementation as a big corporate hired me for so much more …
What was your biggest challenge when you started your first business?Having another job to pay my rent … and a young family already in the apartment.
What was the best advice in life or business you've ever received?
Keep it simple … and then make it simpler.
Which three people, famous or not famous, dead or alive, would you most like to invite to a dinner party? Why?
My wife, my wife and my wife … because I always have a great time with her (and I hardly see her otherwise)
How do you define success?
I wake up in the morning and cannot wait to continue with my project.
What makes a founder successful?
They build networks and improve their business by asking for feedback always and everywhere.
Which resources are you recommending to first time entrepreneurs?
What's the biggest risk you've ever taken?
Probably all kinds of risks … but I did not perceive them as such … and that is probably why things just kept working out …
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Be an entrepreneur … at least once
What's something you don't want to regret when you're older?
A broken marriage and family with my kids not wanting to visit me and vice versa.
What's your favourite book?
I do not like reading business books; and there is a lot of great fiction out there; I am working my way through “Game of Thrones” right now.
What character traits of other entrepreneurs have impressed you?
They know exactly what they are doing … which seems logical as they are defining their own destiny (and not a anonymous corporation).
Do you believe successful ventures require something meaningful?
We want to provide a new way of working for our Allianz colleagues … working with external entrepreneurs.
What's something that first time founders should avoid at all costs?
Work with large corporations or have a business model that is depending on that.
Why are you getting involved with Best of X?
Because I am from Munich and I like Munich to progress in that area
