HOT SEAT - JAN BECHLER:
What are three words to describe yourself?

What was your biggest challenge when you started your first business?
Learning to delegate. Even if your company is „your baby“ you have to learn and accept that you cannot do everything on your own if you want to scale.
What was the best advice in life or business you've ever received?
The best advice was to start meditation. Form e it is – besides sports – the best way to deal with work overload, bad news and stress.
Which three people, famous or not famous, dead or alive, would you most like to invite to a dinner party? Why?
1. Tim Ferris, to learn more about his concept of the „four hour work week“ 2. Axel Springer, who must have been a true visionary about media 3. Roger Federer, who unites high-performance sport with true sportsmanship and style.
How do you define success?
What makes a founder successful?
Focus. Hard work. The ability to recognize when it is time to recover. The openness to acccept failure and to learn from it.
What do you do in order to keep on learning and developing?
Take regular offsides, read a lot of tech blogs, meet inspiring people.
Which resources are you recommending to first time entrepreneurs?
a) „Search inside yourself“ (helps you to keep the balance between work and life and to avoid stress diseases) b) „The 4h workweek“ c) „Mastering The Rockafeller Habits“ (gives great advice how to build structures and processes for scaling companies)
What's the biggest risk you've ever taken?
Quitting my corporate job and cancelling my flat on the same day (shortly after my girlfriend left me). The only thing that was secure that day was that nothing is secure.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Start travelling the world earlier.
What's something you don't want to regret when you're older?
Having skied a too small number of mountains :)
Is there something you know you should stop doing?
Wasting time on Facebook.
What's your favourite book?
Tim Leberecht „The Business Romantic“.
What character traits of other entrepreneurs have impressed you?
Focus, the ability to motivate and lead by inspiration and motivation.
What's something that first time founders should avoid at all costs?
They should avoid to fall in love with their own product so much that they do not listen to their (potential) customers early enough.
Why are you getting involved with Best of X?
Because I was asked to do so :) - and because I love to support other entrepreneurs
